Its hard to say, at 14e its not exactly breaking the bank.

But it really is just what it says it is, something to do big battles with. So yes its more of a toy set as in you set them out pre-populate it with your orders and let them off.

Must say I quite like it, but its not really got long term value I suspect.
Just something you can pick up play a wee bit and leave it sit for a while.

There's a demo due for release closer to when the games out of beta.

What do you think of it though? Worth buying?

Is it just a big toy set or is there any structure to the game - ie. scenarios, campaign etc?

Reminds me of R-type visually :).

im currently playing X3, which is a sandbox space trading and combat space sim.

not so much gratuitous space violence, but a real thinking mans game.

Not sure if anyone else had seen this.

I picked it up off impulse (which is typically cheaper than steam), is basically a space strategy sim, without all the building, mining etc.

You design up your ships, set them up and give them orders and let the battle.
