What next chaps ?

Now that we've come to the close of Max’s game (and I found it a damn enjoyable one even if I did take a back seat in it) the question is what next if anything?

So would anyone else be up for another turn based (or real-time) game of something?
I personally wouldn’t mind a more persistent space-sim game like in the vga-planets vein, so what you think. Anyone got any suggestions?

We’ve the run of the iol servers (Linux only I’m afraid) and/or web servers so we should be able to find something.

Theres plenty of free 2 player PBEM games out there, not many suited to 4ish players, which is proving around the right size for the civ games. VGA Planets was fairly easy to *ahem* abuse too :)

What about one of the battle isle games - don't they have a pbem feature? I'm up for anything.

One of the HOMM games? Anyone have Fallout Tactics?

Battleisle was a good laugh in its day.
There was another squad based game kind of like spacehulk if I remember that could be done via pbem.

Another option might be RobotBattle.

I wouldn't mind another civ pbem, a terra world perhaps? Myself and the Dictator are big fans of MOO2, alack it doesn't exist in pbem format!

If you want to start another pbem game of civ sure stick a post on boards.ie and civfantics to get a few people. I'm sure there's one or two others we could rope in. 4-5 seems to be the ideal number for civ games. You can pm me the forum details if you want one set up (assuming you don't have it already cos everyone is an alt here :) )

As for other games we could consider here's a list:

Outerspace looks interesting
phpDiplomacy if we're in the mood for something hard core.

freeorion might be of interest as well, but doesnt offer a pbem option.

Rev, do you mean Space Crusade? I remember playing the table top version in my college days. What an embarrassing admission.

What about Panzer General/Fantasy General or something like that. Probably only 1v1 though.

Yup, i'd do another Civ game, and i'd definately play any number of other pbem games, as long as they're not ancient, the battleisle games really haven't aged well :)

Wesnoth is a good wee free fantasy turn based strategy wargame http://www.wesnoth.org/. I had thought it was PBEM but it seems it isn't, tho there seems to be alot of multiplayer options.

Any of the old "General" wargames, pacific general etc are still decent pbem, as is the Steel Panthers series. Combat Mission is excellent PBEM. Even if we end up playing something basic 1v1 games like the General series, we could run a wee league of 1v1's, playing multiple games at the one time.

I think Rev is on about "Incubation", a type of Space Hulk clone that had PBEM options. I have that somewhere, as does rev. The PBEM from what i remember is that each player takes a 4 (or is it 6) man squad of marines, kits them out and then its a free for all.

Any interplanetary pbem type games out there? I only bought Civ4 for these games here to be honest, so no problems spending a few bob on something thats decent.

I installed this lastnight, it has not stood the test of time that well, cool geetar riff's in the intro though.
