Civ Patches Galore

That was quick. I imagine the Warlords/Civ patches are to bring them to compatible level with BTS. This may cause trouble for me, as my connection is so shit, it may be very hard for me to get a 62mb patch, and with everybody getting BTS, it might screw up PBEM games.

BTS v3.02

Warlords v2.13

Vanilla v1.74

Mostly minor changes.

Yes I was a bit miffed about it "helpfully" installing updates for Vanilla and Warlords during the installation without so much as a "do you mind?". I can understand they probably needed to patch up warlords to get some of the mods to work, but they surely didnt have to do it for Vanilla as well and they really should have included a prompt before it did.

Yeah, I know how you feel. Hopefully a no-cd patch .exe will get released soon, as whatever copy protection they use, it messes with my dvd drives. I have to open and close the drive maybe 5 or 6 times before it reads the disc. Painful.

Myself and my aliases are holding off playing our turns to see if we can get this patch. It'll be an all nighter.

Been going for over two hours, 15% done. If it crashes I may get Byz.Bur. to play on my behalf while I curse and rail against VSAT.

If you want I can post you a cd/dvd with the patchs. PM your address if you want them sent along with the list of patches you need. You may as well fill it. I can post it either today or first thing tomorrow morning.

On the no-cd front I've been using an image of the disc ( use alcohol 120% on my home machine and daemon tools and sd4hider my laptop ). Alcohol works with BTS, haven't tested daemon tools yet, but I would assume it works since its used in alcohol afaik.

You can use the trial version of alcohol 120% to make an image.
Then use the daemon tools once that expires. Install SPTDinst-v150-x86 first then either alcohol or daemon tools. You may need to run sd4hider before running the game (I had to do it once only on my home machine for alcohol. But each time for the laptop ). There are never versions of the hiders ie.PrOtStOp I'm justing using what I know works with the games I have.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for that Rev, I'll give it a bell. I may be upgrading (or downgrading if you prefer) to Vista this evening, as my cousin who works for MS said he had a spare copy he could give me. I wonder will those work with it?

Do you want the good news or the bad news?

The good: I finally managed to download the file, and bring myself up version 1.74

The (very) bad: This new version is incompatible with old saves. Would somebody else try and verify that this isn't just me or my save?

The Ugly: I'll look around the forums for solutions (suggest others do likewise)

As a matter of interest, do people have two civ ready machines? I have my laptop and a desktop, so I can continue to play the old game version.

I've a laptop as well, so I'll hold off updating that.
Give the saves a try now.

Seems to screw it up. I've read that if the admin password is cleared on the game before patching and then reset after it can load. I'll give that a try on the hightlight game in a bit.

Bit of a mess not checking old saves. tisk tisk

Let us know how that goes. I will try clearing all passwords on discworld and saving a new file before updating, and seeing if I can load that.

Thanks for the offer to post me patch Rev, however, since I'm currently staying on this

It might be hard for the post office to work out the postage.
