Sins of a Solar Empire
This new Real-Time 4x game was released last Monday and I'm completely hooked. Think of Homeworld meets Total War, meets Supreme Commander but at a nice languid pace. Awseome, huge battles with plenty of pyrotechnics. One game on just small map probably took 6 hours to win.
One of the great things about this is the large Capital Ships, that get better and get new abilities with experience. In one battle my fleet got decimated and my lone Battleship took a beating for about 5 minutes, until it finally took out an enemy capital ship. Once destroyed the rest of the fleet bugged out.
Possibly the best thing about this is the multiplayer. Although its played in realtime, you can save the game at any time and pick it up again later. I can't think of any other real-time game that can do this.
Anyway, I recommend it highly. It can be bought online from Stardock/Total Gaming.

Very interesting. I had heard of this a while ago, but it drifted off my radar. I never warmed to GalCiv, so I'm wary even though I love Homeworld more than would be considered appropriate in polite society.

I know what you mean about GalCiv - there was always something about it I didn't quite like.
Basically, if you liked Homeworld, you'll love Sins.

Takes a while to get the hang of it. Wait till you get your first Cap ship.
